Hi, my name is Heidi Zielinski and I create art quilts to share and sell under the name Fiber Into Art by Heidi. I have been making them since about 2007. I was recently featured on the new series (2900) of Quilting Arts TV and I am in the winter 2023 issue of Quilting Arts Magazine coming out in December 2022. I create in my home studio and show regionally in galleries, as well as sending work to national juried quilt shows and occasionally teaching.
This quilt is called “Where There Is Life There Is Love” – Mahatma Ghandi – 9-1/2” x 15”. I made this art quilt to celebrate Valentine’s Day, but also to create a dramatic and bold little piece using the black linen and red cotton fabrics I had either dyed or stamped. It is an abstract raw edge collage with free motion machine quilting, hand embroidery, beading and it has some hand-dyed, over-dyed and stamped fabrics. The addition of gold and white accents really makes it pop! I felt like it was a fitting tribute to the day!
You can see more of my work on my Facebook and Instagram pages. I love sharing and teaching others about my process and finished work. Making art quilts is a passion that I began a little later in life (40-ish) and I can’t deny it is one of my greatest joys!
