Quilt Details:
The quilt is an original design, designed and pieced by myself, entitled “A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words.” Being originally from Michigan, I love designing and creating quilts of Michigan. A few years ago, while visiting Mackinac Island, MI with my husband, I took a photo of the Mackinac Island sunset from Windermere Point, where the Mackinac Bridge was captured in the background, (see bottom photo for closeup). I decided to recreate this photo with fabric & create a quilt. The quilt is 43.5″ x 35″ (width x height). This quilt has many techniques showcased, such as: curved piecing, applique and hand stitching. Hundreds of rocks were hand cut and fused to the quilt to represent the rocky lakeshore.Trees/bushes, the sunset and bridge ledges were cut and fused to the quilt as well to create a 3D effect. The Mackinac Island Bridge was hand stitched using Wonderfil Specialty Thread Eleganza, where I also added swarovski crystals to the bridge to show the beautiful evening lights that are illuminated from the bridge. Batik fabrics were used throughout this piece from the following fabric brands: Benartex, Hoffman Fabrics, Batik Textiles, and Robert Kaufman.
The quilt was designed and pieced by myself, Brooke Stambersky, and quilted by Sheridan Kay Quilting in Hendersonville, NC.
Designing and creating this quilt was fun and challenging, and I am so proud of the results.

This is just gorgeous!!! I live 50 miles south of the Mackinac Bridge, you captured it perfectly…
Brooke- your quilt is so pretty and I’m sure it makes you smile when you look at it for the memories it brings…
Love this quilt! I’ll bet the addition of the rocks fused to the quilt makes a lot of definetion and texture. Gives me lots of inspiration.
