Hi! I’m Caitlin. Here is a photo of some felt peeps stuffed with catnip, that I made for a friend’s cranky cat last Christmas. (The quarter is shown at the bottom of the photo for scale.)
They were easy and fun to make, and apparently cat-tested & approved!
I freehand sketched a pattern and made up a sample to start.
The felt dots that make up the eyes and nose are sewn onto the back, as well as the front panel, of each peep. (I avoided gluing them on or using a Sharpie marker to make the eye and nose markings, because the ingredients of glue and pigment from the ink of Sharpie markers are both toxic for cats to chew on or lick).
The felt does get a bit smaller when blanket stitched around the edges, and got little smaller yet when stuffed. So, I redrafted the pattern, slightly taller and slightly wider, to create the size and shape of a toy that would be appealing and fun for cats to play with.
Thanks!
Caitlin
