Hi, I’m Mimi! A few of us who are members of the Trimble Thimbles went on a trip to Paducah, Kentucky. We went to a quilt shop that had a quilt made by another person hanging in their shop. The pattern was Woodland Creatures. We purchased the pattern. A few years later our oldest member, who was 90, asked me if we were ever going to make the quilt before she passed. So, we decided to make it!
The pattern is Woodland Creatures Animal Pattern by Rosemary Makhan. I copied all pattern pieces on Wonder Under and then cut each out. There are some rather small pieces on several of the squares specially in the flowers. I machine appliqued all of the pieces and there is some hand embroidery that I did. I like the raccoon and squirrel blocks but my favorite is the opossum. That square was the one I didn’t really want to do but once I got it together I really liked it.
Three of the members in our group made the quilt. While drawing the patterns on Wonder Under, I had to make two of each and then we would meet each week and my 90-year-old friend would take hers home and applique hers on. I would also applique mine on. It took us about a year and a half to complete the quilts, but we finally did. As a result of doing this quilt I have learned that I really like applique!
I’ve been sewing since I was 9, so about fifty years. This was and is my favorite quilt that I’ve done. My mom and I spent many hours together sewing and quilting.
Thanks!
