Hello, I am Melody Hazelton. I live in Weddington, NC which is a small community outside Charlotte and am a retired elementary school teacher. My mother was a stay-at-home mom and an excellent seamstress. She taught me to sew when I was in 6th grade and I instantly loved it. I used to make all my own clothes, including my daughter’s, but sew mainly for my 4 grandchildren now who are ages 7 and younger. What I love best about sewing is that it allows me to dream: I see a fabric or a pattern and my imagination is off and running. I spend a lot of time planning the garment (and changing my mind a hundred times!), as to what sleeve, what skirt style, and on and on. I love combining different colors and prints and more recently, hand embroidery embellishments. And of course, best of all is seeing my makes on my adorable grandkids!
This is a dress I made last week for my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter, Virginia. The pdf pattern is “Jasmine Baby” from Peony Patterns. Both fabrics are Dear Stella Designs, purchased online from Chateau Sew & Sew (I think). The embroidery pattern is “Cassia” from Sunflower Seams. My daughter-in-law loves monograms, so I altered the embroidery pattern to include Virginia’s initials instead of the word “Love” which is in the original design. Thank you!

Is there a pattern?
Hi Sue. The pattern is listed at the very top of the article. It is Jasmine Baby by Peony Patterns. 🙂
Adorable….I make dresses for ” Dress a Girl Around the World” (DAG) and Operation Christmas Child (OCC). This is a perfect pattern because it is loose fitting and not limited in size. Thank you so much for posting. It bring me great joy to sew and share with those less fortunate. Happy sewing, be it quilts, garments, bags, home decor…whatever. Happy sewing, Alice
