Hi! I’m Jeanne and I made this quilt for my niece. I didn’t use a pattern and it was a Quilt as You Go. The finished size is 110×110. I knew what I wanted it to look like in the end, but this wasn’t it! I’m happy with how it turned out, although it is nothing like what I had in mind.
I was hospitalized about halfway through and I credit the quilt for my recovery! All I kept thinking was, “I have to finish this the quilt before I die!” (A little context: I’m 72 years old and in stage 4 COPD. My hands are crippled but useable, so every day is a gift.)
As you see, I finally finished it and have started another quilt. It is also Quilt as You Go and I’m not using a pattern. I’m just making it up as I go. The race is on to finish this one. Who knows maybe there’s time for a couple more? God only knows and I’m just thankful for finding this creative outlet. I enjoy it so much and it keeps my mind and hands busy.
I want everyone to know there are a thousand mistakes in this quilt that now make me smile. At the time I could have cried, but I know twenty to thirty years from now my great-great-niece, or whoever inherits this quilt, will try and figure out what the hell was she thinking and that makes me smile. And to tell the truth, I was thinking how easy it was in my mind, not so much how hard when I was actually making it.
I’m from Amelia, Ohio and absolutely love my sewing room! It’s where I spend most of my time. I bought a Singer sewing machine about 2 years ago (Singer heavy duty 4452). It’s nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. It’s became an obsession! I have enough fabric for ten quilts. What a crazy hobby this is! I love it!!
Thanks,
Jeanne

This quilt is stunning, You did a beautiful job. I love you attitude about mistakes. All of my quilts have mistakes and I don’t care they were made with love not to be perfect. Congratulations
It’s beautiful! I’m sure your niece will cherish it for years to come.
Jeanne, I applaud you for your positive outlook. It can make all the difference in how your recovery goes. That alone is a great accomplishment! But wait! Look at this gorgeous quilt! I hope you are signing them, because you are creating a wonderful legacy and happy memories. Keep it up and be well!
This quilt is gorgeous! You should be very proud! I would love to see a tutorial on how you made it and did the quilt as you go. The pillow cases and throw pillow are soo cute too! I have some vintage Dresden plates, I have been trying to decide how to use them. His would be perfect! Thank you for sharing your beautiful creation!
