Hi, I’m Caitlin. Here are some photos of a set of reusable cotton flannel “paper towel substitutes” that I recently made. Each piece is about the same dimension as an average-sized paper towel and the edges are finished with overcast stitching. I made 20 pieces for the set and rolled them onto a wooden dowel, so they can be pulled off the roll as needed, just like a regular paper towel.
The difference is that these can be washed and reused countless times. They become softer and more absorbent each time!
If you’re interested in saving money, reducing your use of regular paper towels, and generating less waste, this easy project is a win-win!
I keep a tupperware bowl next to the roll of flannel wipes, and toss the used ones in there. When the bowl is full, toss them into washer/dryer, roll them up, ready to be used again!
Happy sewing!
Caitlin

Re Caitlin’s paper towels – how are these made – using two pieces of fabric sewn together? – and then finishing the edges – is there any kind of padding between the two sheets of fabric? They can also be sewn by putting two right sides together and then it turning inside out.
