Hi, I’m Kyli and I made this pillow for my friend’s 80th birthday is in June. My health limits my quilting to an hour or two on good days. . It was best to start her gift in January.
The plan was to make this bright and vibrant. The message (free-motion stitched) around the perimeter is
“Count these among your gifts,
The friendly morning sky, the peaceful night
,And all the colours, beauties and splendors of a living earth”
I asked her what colours she would like…..she said taupe and black! This is my compromise.
The labyrinth is a path for meditation. It is an original design I painted on my bedroom ceiling 30 years ago. It had to be modified a bit, scaled down to fit on an 18 1/2in square pillow. Easy peazy….just take a photo of the ceiling. Scale it to size. Print it. Draft the pattern. Sew it up. Ha HA HA !! Each strip of fabric would need to be cut 17/16” wide….not going to happen if I’m doing it! Time to recalculate.
There are 2 symbols in the corners. The first is my friend’s astronomical sign and the other is her astrological sign.
All the fabric is from my stash, some of the stitching is metallic thread. The backing is MCKENNA RYAN “At Home in the Woods.”
My friend is not a quilter and only knows it will be a pillow. Each time she calls she has to listen to me “work through the process and options.” What are good friends for?
My husband had to listen as I was ripping out some stitching. What are good husbands for?

Kyli- this is amazing! I found myself following the meditation medallion form your ceiling to the center. Pretty fabrics too!
This design is absolutely incredible!! I loved reading about all the small details that add up to an amazing gift.
