It’s finally spring here and that always puts a little extra pep in my step. The longer days mean more light in the sewing room, and I find myself itching to start new projects. Of course, with every new project comes the question: do I really need another tool? (Spoiler alert: the answer is almost always yes.)
When I first heard about Missouri Star Quilt Co.’s new 28mm Rotary Cutter named Klara, I honestly didn’t think much of it. I’ve been loyal to my 45mm cutter for years and I also love my 60 mm cutter. I didn’t see a reason to reach for anything smaller. I figured it might be cute, but not necessarily useful.
Turns out, I was wrong.
The Missouri Star Mini Rotary Cutter features a 28mm blade that folds into the handle for safe storage and easy portability. It’s got a safety lock, too, which makes it great to toss in a retreat bag or carry along to a guild meeting. But the real magic is in that smaller blade – it’s so much easier to control, especially for small, detailed cuts.

I didn’t think I’d use a little cutter like this much, but now I find myself reaching for it more than I expected. It’s perfect when I’m trimming seams and working with small pieces, especially when I’m doing foundation paper piecing. If I would have had this rotary cutter several years ago while I was working on my Jane Stickle quilt, I would’ve saved myself a lot of frustration. Those tiny pieces were no joke.
This cutter has earned a permanent spot on my sewing table, right next to the tools I use daily. It’s one of those things I didn’t know I needed until I had it. And now? I’m hooked.
Alright, I’ve got a fresh glass of iced tea and some scraps calling my name. If you’ve been on the fence about trying a smaller rotary cutter, consider this your nudge to go for it. Happy stitching, friends! See you next time!
