It’s a beautiful Fall day here in my little corner of the world! The leaves are putting on quite a show, the air is crisp, and my mums are stunning this year. My family has been so busy with fall activities, football season, Homecoming weekend, and so much more. This upcoming weekend was free from other activities, so I’m spending it at a quilting retreat with my sewing friends. I can’t wait! Which project will I bring? I still haven’t decided and I leave in a few hours! I have a few quick projects I need to make and I think I will take a couple of quick and easy projects.
One of my favorite “quick and easy” projects is the Self-Binding Baby Blanket. It’s such a classic project and makes the perfect gift for baby showers. I especially love using flannel because it’s soft, warm, and just right for snuggling a newborn. The tutorial for this project is fantastic! In fact, I watch it every time I make the blanket. I just like to double-check that I’m laying the fabric in the right order as I sew. This tutorial walks you through how to make a blanket with finished edges that look so polished, no binding required. It’s fast, easy, and every time I make one, I think, “Why don’t I do this more often?”

I love pink and gray together! These two flannel fabrics would make a precious baby blanket. Click here to shop for flannel baby fabric. They’re all so cute!
Speaking of my favorite tutorials, another one that has stood the test of time in my sewing room is the Pinwheel Block. There’s something so cheerful about those spinning triangles. When I need a quick quilt or I’m looking for a way to use up precuts, this block is my favorite choice. The tutorial calls for charm packs (5″ squares), but I often use layer cakes (10″ squares) instead. It makes the blocks larger, which means the quilt comes together even faster, perfect for when I need a last-minute gift or just want the instant gratification of finishing a quilt top in a weekend. This one is on my list for this weekend.

How beautiful are these precuts? These 10″ squares would make a gorgeous Fall-themed Pinwheel Quilt! Find them here!
Both of these tutorials are fun, approachable, and remind me why I fell in love with sewing in the first place. They don’t require complicated piecing or fancy tools, just good fabric and a reliable machine. I am so looking forward to my weekend of sewing and simple projects. I hope you get a little time to sew too!
‘Til next time! Happy sewing!
