Quilter’s Name: Sue Scherer from Maryland
Name of Pattern: Crazy Quilt

This is my ‘Crazy Quilt’ that I made 22 years ago. I’ve always loved sewing, but did more clothes making than quilt making. I made my Wedding dress and later made my girls’ clothes. Then I started working in a fabric store called Minnesota Fabrics. I became manager there, then of Hancock Stores. I kept busy and was always around fabrics, which I loved.
After I retired, I found out I had breast cancer. A time when I, as most, thought my life would be over. But now it’s been 22 years cancer-free! I’m telling you this story because as I went through the crazy time with radiation and the crazy emotional time I was trying to deal with and get through, I started a “crazy quilt.” (I figured that sounded fitting!) to keep me busy.
It may not be perfect but I loved red and green and I finished my treatment when I finished my quilt. I mostly make quilts with joy, for gifts, for new babies, for my church craft fair. So , I’ve never made another “crazy quilt,” but luckily have never felt the need. But I’m still quilting every chance I get.
And anyone reading this always get your scheduled Mammogram!
Thanks!
Sue Scherer, I used to live in Chicago, now living in Maryland

I am so happy that you are cancer free Sue! A completed quilt made with love is way better than any “perfect” quilt could ever be. I hope it brings you happiness whenever you look at it- I know it made me smile.
