Hi, sewing friends! Today is all about showcasing and displaying your quilts in your home. The idea for this article was sent in by Kate W. and I immediately had so many ideas for it! So here we go. Thanks Kate!
Quilts definitely deserve to be showcased – especially after we put so much work into them. While draping a quilt over a couch or chair is a classic display method, there are many other creative ways to incorporate quilts into your home decor.
1. Hang It Like Artwork
Quilts can make stunning wall art! Use a quilt hanger, curtain rod, or a wooden ladder to display your favorite quilts on a wall. A wooden dowel with clips can also hold a quilt securely while allowing for easy changes when you want to refresh your space. Shout out to my friend Michele, who has an old wooden ladder hanging horizontally across her wall, above her couch. She has several gorgeous quilts hanging from it and it is stunning! What a fun and creative way to display her quilts!

2. Create a Quilt Gallery Wall
Instead of one large quilt, consider displaying multiple mini quilts or quilt blocks in frames to create a gallery wall effect. This is a perfect way to showcase heirloom pieces, practice blocks, or smaller quilted projects that deserve attention. My friend Cindy, has a quilt gallery wall in her home. It is lovely and catches my eye every time.

3. Use a Quilt Rack or Ladder
We talked about hanging a ladder on the wall (see #1), but this is another great way to use a ladder. A wooden quilt rack or a vintage ladder leaning against the wall makes a stylish and functional way to display multiple quilts while keeping them within reach. This is ideal for rotating seasonal quilts or adding layers of color to a room. I love this idea! I’ve been searching for just the right size ladder for a corner of my living room.

4. Drape Over a Headboard or Footboard
Give your bedroom a cozy, quilted touch by draping a quilt over the headboard or footboard of your bed. This method not only adds a decorative element but also allows for easy access to an extra layer on chilly nights.
5. Frame a Quilt Block
If you have a damaged quilt or a special block you want to preserve, consider framing it under glass. Shadow boxes work well for this, giving your quilted piece dimension while protecting it from dust and wear. Such a fun idea for those orphan blocks!

6. Use a Quilt as a Tablecloth or Runner
A smaller quilt or quilted runner can add charm to a dining table, coffee table, or sideboard. Not only does it serve as a beautiful centerpiece, but it also protects the surface from scratches and spills. My family will tell you that I use quilts to cover almost any flat surface. And why not?
7. Display Quilts on a Bench or Basket
Roll up quilts and place them in a decorative basket or drape them over a bench at the foot of a bed or in an entryway. This method adds texture and warmth to your decor while keeping quilts easily accessible. This method works well for smaller quilts, for sure.
8. Hang a Quilt from a Curtain Rod
For a unique window treatment or room divider, hang a quilt from a sturdy curtain rod with clips or loops sewn into the binding. This works beautifully in open spaces or to add a soft, colorful touch to a room. If you’re worried about the weight, consider using just a quilt top, not a completed quilt. Or if you have a drafty door, hang a rod above it and hang a heavy quilt there. It’s the perfect way to keep those drafts out!

9. Use a Quilt as a Canopy or Tent Covering
For a whimsical and cozy feel, drape a quilt over a canopy bed or use it to create a reading nook or play tent for children. This method adds warmth and nostalgia to any space. When my kids were little, we did this often. One really big quilt draped over the kitchen table made the perfect hideout.

10. Fold and Stack on Open Shelving
If you have open shelving or a bookcase, neatly fold and stack quilts to create a vibrant, cozy display. This method showcases different quilt patterns and colors while keeping them organized. I’ve seen pictures of all kinds of old cases being used to store quilts – old gun cases, glass front display cases, bookcases, etc. I have an old curio cabinet that I used to store dishes in. Guess what? I never used those dishes! One day I sold them all and filled the cabinet full of antique quilts. I love it’s new purpose! My oldest daughter bought a beautiful cabinet from Ikea recently that she is using for quilt storage, as well.

There are so many fun ways of displaying your quilts. The possibilities are endless! Whether you’re displaying a cherished heirloom or a modern masterpiece, there’s no shortage of ways to let your quilts shine!
