Hey there, fabulous fabric fanatics and sensational sewists!
Guess what time it is? Yes, it’s the most wonderful time of the year… but in the middle of summer! While everyone else is basking in the sun and dreaming of beach vacations, we’re over here dreaming of jingle bells, hot cocoa, and cozy quilts. That’s right, folks—it’s time for a Christmas in July Sewing Challenge!
Why wait until December to start those festive projects when you can dive into the holiday spirit right now? So, grab your fabrics adorned with holly, mistletoe, and Santa’s merry little elves, and let’s get stitching!
Here are some fun Christmas patterns to inspire you and get you started with the challenge! You can find these patterns on Missouri Star Quilt Co. or just click here!
The Challenge:
Start a Christmas quilt or sewing project this July. It could be anything from a festive quilt, an adorable set of holiday-themed potholders, a tree skirt, or even a snazzy holiday apron. The sky’s the limit!
Why Join the Fun?
- Beat the Holiday Rush: By December, you’ll be merrily sipping eggnog, knowing your handmade gifts are ready to be wrapped.
- Spread Cheer: Nothing says “holidays” like surprising your loved ones with your homemade creations. Imagine their faces when they unwrap your masterpieces!
- Embrace the Unexpected: What’s more fun than sewing snowflakes while it’s 90 degrees outside? It’s a quirky mix of hot and cold that brings its own unique kind of joy!
How to Get Started:
- Shop For Fabric or Raid Your Stash: Find those Christmas prints and fabrics you bought on sale last year. You know the ones—the ones you’ve been saving for the perfect project! If you don’t have the perfect fabric, the new Christmas fabric lines that just hit the stores in time for Christmas in July are ahhh-mazing!!!
- Plan Your Project: Whether it’s a quilt, table runner, or stockings for the mantle, make sure it’s something that will knock your snowman socks off.
- Share Your Progress: Post your projects on social media with the hashtag #NancysNotionsChristmasInJulySewingChallenge. We want to see your merry creations!

Christmas in July Event at Missouri Star:
Did you know there’s a whole Christmas in July celebration going on in Hamilton, Missouri at Missouri Star Quilt Co.? Yep! Starting July 15 to July 31 there is a Christmas par-tay going on in Quilt Town, USA! You can write a letter telling Santa Jenny what you want for Christmas and drop it off in the Main Shop, you can play Christmas Bingo while you shop (You can even win gift cards!!), and you get access to awesome Christmas in July deals! You won’t want to miss it!
A Few Tips for Jolly Sewing:
- Cool Down: Keep a fan nearby. Sewing with snowmen fabric in July can be… an oxymoronic experience.
- Sing Along: Crank up those holiday tunes. “Jingle Bells” never sounded so good in midsummer!
- Snack Wisely: Swap your hot cocoa for iced cocoa. It’s still festive, but much more refreshing!
So, dust off those sewing machines and let’s make this a holly jolly summer! Remember, the best way to spread Christmas cheer is sewing loud for all to hear. Merry sewing, and may your bobbins be merry and bright!
Stay merry and sew on!
‘Til next time,
Beth
