It’s funny how life can lead you back to old passions. For me, it was embroidery. I had put away my embroidery needles and threads years ago, thinking that chapter of my life was over. But recently Missouri Star Quilt Co. released their new embroidery line and I thought, “Hey! I should embroider something!” As a result, I’ve made some beautiful items. That’s the good news! The bad news is that my current quilt-in-progress is going much slower than anticipated!
The wonderful thing about hand embroidery projects is that they transport easily. It’s currently summer and I have three kids. We are constantly on the go – from Little League games, to road trips, and beyond. My stitching projects easily go right along with me. I like to keep my hands busy even while I sit on my front porch and visit with the neighborhood. (I have the BEST neighborhood and neighbors!)
The Joy of Embroidering Canvas Shoes
Want to know my latest obsession? Embroidering on canvas shoes! The sturdy yet flexible material of the shoes provides an excellent canvas (pun intended) for my designs. The results are not only beautiful but also wearable art pieces that add a unique touch to any outfit.
How cute are these?? I’m in love with them! I used DMC thread with a sharp Chenille needle (a larger than normal needle for the embroidery), and a thimble. I used the Missouri Star Peel & Stitch paper to doodle the design I wanted and then stitched it. Voila!
I’ve already completed a few pairs and have grand plans for more. My daughter’s volleyball games are coming up, and I’m working on a pair in vibrant team colors—orange and blue. They’ll be perfect for showing my support in style. I’m also preparing a special pair for the Missouri Star Birthday Bash in September. I envision a festive, colorful design that will capture the celebratory spirit of the event. And, of course, a spooky Halloween-themed pair is in the works for the Halloween party at Missouri Star in October. (Want more info on these events? Birthday Bash is September 18-21 and the Halloween Party is October??? Click here for Birthday Bash info and be watching MSQC for more info on the Halloween Party!)
This pair I have deemed my “Fall Pair” and will wear them with all of my fall-themed outfits and t-shirts. For these I used one of the pre-printed designs that comes in the Missouri Star Beginner’s Kit – the Mandala, but I cut it into pieces that worked with my spaces. I also added some fun stitches around the trim.
My Favorite Embroidery Product
One of my favorite embroidery products that Missouri Star has released is the Peel and Stitch. It works like magic. The pre-printed designs on adhesive fabric sheets stick to your material, eliminating the need for tracing and transferring patterns. This means less prep work and more time to enjoy the stitching process. It’s perfect for both beginners and seasoned embroiderers looking for a hassle-free way to bring their designs to life. This stuff even sticks to canvas shoes. And when I’m done stitching it rinses right off and leaves no tell-tale trace.
These Peel & Stitch transfer sheets are amazing! They even come with an adorable design sheet. You can find this product on Missouri Star Quilt Co. or click here!
If you’ve been hesitant to pick up your embroidery hoop again or if you’re a newbie looking for an easy way to start, I highly recommend giving Peel and Stitch or the Beginner’s Kit a try. You might find yourself, like me, falling in love with embroidery all over again.
Happy stitching!
‘Til next time,
Beth

I love the look of these. But I’d hate to spend all that effort on these works of art and then they end up being worn in the rain or snow and potentially being ruined. So, I will look on at what other people have created on their shoes.
Love them! Very cute idea! The possibilities are endless!
