Lately, I’ve been spending a lot of time in my sewing room, and I couldn’t be happier about it. I’m currently finishing up my Tilda Merry Little Christmas quilt, and it has been such a fun project from start to finish. There’s something about working with cheerful fabrics and watching the blocks come together that makes the whole process feel extra special.
Meanwhile, spring is starting to peek around the corner here at my house. The daffodils in my backyard are popping up, and my teenage son has already started wearing shorts. Around here, that must mean summer is right around the corner… right?
With my quilt nearly finished, I’m thinking about one of the final, and often overlooked, steps in quilting – labeling.
Why Quilt Labels Matter
Quilt labels are more than just a finishing touch. They’re a way to preserve the story behind the quilt. Years from now, someone might unfold that quilt and wonder who made it, when it was created, or why it was given. A simple label answers those questions and keeps the history of the quilt alive.
Personally, I’m a big fan of handwritten labels on the backs of my quilts. I usually include the maker’s name, the date, the city where it was made, and who the quilt was gifted to. Those small details turn a beautiful quilt into a piece of family history.
But labeling doesn’t have to stop there.

These new project labels from Missouri Star Quilt Co. are called Labels of Love and they are so stinkin’ cute! There are lots of styles and sayings (way more than pictured here!) and I love them all! You can find them all on Missouri Star Quilt Co. or just click here!
A Sweet Finishing Touch
One of the easiest ways to add personality to your projects is with the adorable Labels of Love quilt and sewing project labels from Missouri Star Quilt Company.
These little labels are such a fun addition to quilts, garments, bags, and just about anything you sew. They’re pre-made, beautifully designed, and incredibly easy to add to a project. Simply stitch them into a seam and you instantly have a polished, professional-looking detail.
Even better, they come in multiple packs with different sayings, so you can match the label to the project.
My personal favorite? The “Limited Edition 1/1” label. It makes me smile every time I see it because it’s absolutely true – every handmade item really is one of a kind.
Perfect for More Than Quilts
While I’ll probably always keep adding my handwritten labels to the backs of quilts, these labels are a wonderful companion to that tradition. You can add one to the front corner or binding of a quilt for a fun little signature, while still including your handwritten label on the back.
Where these labels really shine, though, is on projects where you normally wouldn’t add a traditional label.
Think about:
- Tote bags
- Garments
- Zipper pouches
- Handmade gifts
- Aprons
- Kids’ clothes
A small sewn-in label instantly gives the project that boutique-quality look – and it lets the recipient know it was handmade with care.
A Signature for Your Handmade Work
One of the most special parts of sewing and quilting is creating something unique. No two projects are exactly the same, and each one carries a little piece of the maker with it.
Adding a label is a simple way to sign your work and celebrate that creativity. Whether you prefer a handwritten quilt label, a playful sewn-in tag, or both together, it’s a small step that makes a big difference.
