Today we had snow flurries at my house and that’s a-okay with me! I love the snow and I love February. But for those of you that don’t, the promise of Spring is right around the corner. While I was at our local Walmart yesterday, I saw plants being delivered to the Lawn & Garden section. Warmer weather will be here soon for those of us who live where it’s been a long cold winter.
My sewing room has been just as lively as the weather. I’m still plugging away on my Farmer’s Wife quilt—slow and steady, block by block. You know how those sampler-style quilts are… they keep you humble and they keep you learning. And as if I needed any more temptation, Edyta Sitar has released her new Farmer’s Daughter fabric line and oh my goodness—I am in love. The florals, the colors, the vintage feel… it would be absolutely perfect for the Farmer’s Wife pattern, or honestly, a dozen other classics. It’s one of those collections that makes you want to start a second quilt before the first one is even finished. (No judgment if you’ve done that. I see you.)

In the midst of all this stitching, I made a bold decision. Although I own two Singer Featherweights, I’ve never sewn a full project on them. It’s been hard to give up the bells and whistles on my Baby Lock when I’m used to all those modern perks. But I finally dusted off the Featherweights and had a friend—who truly knows these machines inside and out—get them both in tip-top shape. One is black, one is white, and the white one is in fantastic condition… except for its poor little case. Let’s just say it has lived a life. The black one purrs like a kitten but needs some tlc on the outside. I’m thinking of having it painted.
I’m determined to sew my next project entirely on one of those Featherweights, and I’m really looking forward to the slower, simpler rhythm. There’s something special about using a machine with so much history. I’ve asked my brother (who loves a good refinishing project) to help me restore that worn-out case. I’ve been googling ideas and there are so many creative approaches—from classic restorations to fabric-lined makeovers. I’ll share some before photos when I post this, but I would love your suggestions. If you’ve refinished a Featherweight case, tell me everything!
And because creative chaos can get out of hand quickly, I’ve been keeping my sewing room cute and tidy with my Missouri Star fabric storage bags and project bags. They make it so much easier to keep my Farmer’s Wife blocks organized and my works-in-progress from taking over every flat surface.

I love this storage and project bags! I have so many in my sewing room and they keep me very organized. You can find them on Missouri Star Quilt Co. or just click here!
Spring is peeking in, new fabric lines are calling my name, and a Featherweight is about to hum in my sewing room. That feels like a pretty sweet season to me. Until next time… 💛
