Hi, sewing friends! Is your sewing room as busy as mine? Right now, I’ve got three different sewing projects underway at once, which is very unlike me. I’m usually a one-project-at-a-time kind of gal. I like to start something, finish it, and then move on. But sometimes inspiration strikes in waves, and I’ve learned to roll with it. While juggling multiple projects is a bit chaotic, it has reminded me just how thankful I am to have certain fabrics always on hand.
One of my best sewing room habits is keeping a bolt of white fabric and a bolt of black fabric in my stash at all times. It sounds like a big commitment, but let me tell you, it’s been a game changer. Whether I’m cutting backgrounds for a quilt, adding a lining to a bag, or creating contrast in a scrappy block, those two bolts get a workout. No more last-minute dashes to the store or trying to remember which shade of white I used last time. It’s just there, waiting for me, whenever I need it.

Keeping a bolt of white and a bolt of black in my sewing room is so convenient! I love having it on hand! You can find these two Kona bolts, plus lots of other solid, print, and batik bolts on Missouri Star Quilt Co.! Click here!
Buying fabric by the bolt isn’t just for shop owners or professional quilters. It’s for anyone who finds themselves reaching for the same fabric over and over again. If you’ve got a go-to background color, a favorite solid, or a seasonal print you love to use (hello, Christmas fabric!), grabbing a whole bolt makes perfect sense. You’ll save money in the long run, and you’ll avoid the heartbreak of finding out your favorite fabric has been discontinued. I’ve definitely stocked up on bolts of Christmas fabric before because I know I’ll use them year after year.

Another great reason to consider a bolt? Big projects. Having a full bolt means you can cut with confidence and even make a few mistakes along the way. It’s a little sewing security blanket that keeps the creative process moving smoothly.
So if there’s a fabric you love and use often, go ahead and buy the bolt. Trust me. You’ll feel like a sewing superhero every time you skip a trip to the store and reach for that handy roll waiting on your shelf.
Have a great week everyone and happy sewing!
Beth
