Hi, I’m Cindie and I have been quilting for about 40 years, after a short career as a home economics teacher and many years as a substitute teacher.
This quilt was made as an entry in the theme challenge at the 2023 Minot Prairie Quilt Festival. The challenge had a prairie and state of North Dakota theme with the following requirements in addition to size limitations: applique, flying geese, prairie points, and three things that represent our state. I chose the state bird and flower, the western meadowlark and wild rose and was stumped for the third until I decided to add wind towers in white beads in the upper right corner. After all, North Dakota can be a very windy place!
This quilt was adapted from the pattern series “American Album Blocks-North Dakota” by P3 Designs. I used fabrics from my personal stash so there is a variety. I made it during the summer of 2022 and quilted it on my home sewing machine. The quilt won second place.
