Hi! I’m Claire Flannery. I made this reindeer table runner for myself a few years ago. I just loved the modern take on the reindeer. I was initially drawn to this pattern because of the straight lines. I’m a modern quilter and prefer lots of negative space and simple, straight lines. I was a member of the Modern Quilt Guild when it started in Los Angeles, where I was living at the time. I’m from Boston originally, but was transferred by my company to Lost Angeles in 1997. I lived there for 15 years and then my husband and I retired to Palm Springs. That is where I fell in love with quilting. I met some women who lived in Sun City Palm Desert, where I lived, and they quilted twice a week in the clubhouse. It didn’t take me long to fall in love with my new hobby!
I used the “Eight Tiny Reindeer” pattern by Judith Sandstrom. I had copied it out of a book titled Quick Creative Quilting by Jeanne Stauffer. This same pattern is currently available on freepatterns.com. You can find it here.
I now live in Sarasota, Florida and have been here six years. I moved from Palm Springs when my husband died suddenly and I needed to reinvent myself. I do a lot of volunteer work, but my true love is quilting and quilt patterns and quilt notions and quilt shops and quilt newsletters and quilt ideas on Pinterest! I have zillions of quilts I want to make… and lots of UFO’s, which haunt me… but it doesn’t stop me from starting something new when I see a pattern or project I like! The problem is that the weather is so beautiful here in Florida (except for the humid summers, of course) that my quilting has taken a back seat to the sunny days.
This table runner gives me enormous pleasure when I bring it out each and every Christmas!
Merry Christmas, everyone!
