Wendy Uses Neckties to Make a Memory Pillow!

by Beth Cooper

Sewist’s Name: Wendy Connelly from Doylestown, Pennsylvania

Type of Project: Pillow

Pattern: Original Design

Featured Date: 08-24-23

This pillow project was made for a friend. Her husband passed away and she asked me to make something from a lot of his ties. The ties were silk and had to be opened up and ironed to be able to cut them into strips. That was the beginning of the project. The second part was deciding which ties would go together and what design would best showcase the project.
Finally, sewing the design and knowing that this special pillow would need to be dry cleaned. I would have to make a backing that would enable the pillow to be taken apart. That was the envelope backing.
When finished my friend loved the pillow and said she could remember her husband wearing each one of the ties.
I was so happy to have made something for a dear friend and now she could remember her husband when she looked at the pillow.

Thanks!

Wendy

Such a thoughtful way to honor a person’s memories. I’m sure Wendy’s friend finds peace when she looks at the pillow.
