Hi, I’m Vickie. This is an original purse I made for my Mom. Almost all of my creations are made from remnants and this purse is no different. It is made from the discarded hem material of my husband’s suits. The pattern is my own. Inside is lined with remnant drapery blackout lining where I inserted a slide pocket, a zippered pocket, a key fob and pen holder(s). Finished size is 10 1/2″ wide x 8 1/2″ tall x 3 1/2″ deep.
I started sewing in the mid ’70s, making 3-piece suits to wear to work. When pattern prices got up to $15, I stopped. When I had my children, I started creating nursery decorations from my own designs. Life got in the way and I did not sew very often until I bought my first sewing/embroidery machine in 2002 – a Husqvarna/Viking Designer I. What a workhorse! I really started sewing more when I retired 2010. My first project was to deconstruct my favorite store-bought purse and reverse engineer it, re-size it, adding custom interior and exterior pockets to suit my needs. Since then most of my sewing has been purses, with a few original home dec projects thrown in as needed. Almost everything is done using remnants. I sew at least once/month now, creating a unique project to use as a bingo prize for my friends.
This bag was a fun challenge like a puzzle, since I only had a limited amount of suiting remnants. I really like doing projects from concept to creation.
Thanks!
Vickie
