Wardrobe Builder: Sew Along with Us!
by Audra Hoy Chaimson February 1, 2021
Our team has been very excited for January 2021. Bringing you the Nancy’s Notions Wardrobe Builder with Joi Mahon was a new adventure for our team and we couldn’t be more excited for you all to be able to join us sewing throughout 2021.
We have developed this program to be beneficial to all levels of sewists. We want to remove intimidating barriers for the newer sewist, and provide new techniques and growth for the experienced sewist. Including all of us at Nancy’s Notions!
Our Nancy’s Notions team will be sewing alongside you throughout the year. We all have varying levels of experience and passions in apparel sewing. I love all things classic and want to build up my skills to a point that pants and a great blazer are not intimidating. Fit, I am coming for you! Jaylynn on the other hand wants to tackle confidence with stretch fabrics and elastic. She plans to be proudly wearing her own very own swimsuit this summer.
We also hope that we are able to provide you with some tips and tricks that will take your sewing to the next level. All those things that we as sewists learn along the way and think, “ugh! I wish I knew this sooner!”
Joi Mahon is an incredible teacher and we are thankful to have her on board to take us through building our wardrobe this year. If you have questions along the way, reach out and ask away! We will be blogging our experiences, doing Facebook live chats and will also have a Facebook group (link) for all of us to show our masterpieces, compare notes and ask questions.
This will be a spectacular journey together and we thank you for joining us!
Audra & Jaylynn's Samples
Audra: Winterfleece London Plaid Camel, McCall's M8143. Option A with no kangaroo pocket.
This was my first time sewing with plaids... the print doesn't match at the sleeves, but hey - the plaids are straight! I considered that a massive win. :-) I will continue to work on pattern matching as Wardrobe Builder goes along.
Jaylynn: Classic Scuba Knit Antique Gold and Navy. McCall's M8070. Combined options A & D.
"My pattern recommended twill tape for the sleeve stripes, but I used the same navy scuba as I used for the pocket (This way, I knew the colors & fabric types would match). Side note: This is my first time not breaking a double needle (winning!)... although I did break two normal needles. Consider me skilled," joked Jaylynn.
