Now is the Perfect Time to Start a Christmas Project!

It’s Never Too Early to Start Your Christmas Sewing!

It may feel a little early to start thinking about Christmas, but for quilters and sewists, now is actually the perfect time to start those holiday projects!

Christmas has a way of sneaking up quickly, and there is nothing quite like having a few festive quilts and handmade decorations ready to go when the holiday season arrives. Plus, there are so many beautiful Christmas fabrics to choose from that the hardest part may be deciding where to start!

So Many Christmas Fabrics, So Little Time!

How does one even choose?

Are you a traditionalist who reaches for classic red and green? Maybe you love adding a little blue to your Christmas palette for a fresh, wintry look. Or perhaps you prefer something a little more elegant, with shimmering neutrals, metallics, creams, and soft golds.

Maybe traditional Christmas isn’t your style at all. Pinks, turquoises, aqua, and other unexpected colors can give a holiday project a fun and modern twist.

And then there are all the wonderful Christmas patterns, panels, precuts, and kits!

Start With a Quick Project

If a whole Christmas quilt feels a little ambitious right now, start small! Table runners are a fast and easy project that can make a big impact in your holiday decorating. A festive runner on the dining table, kitchen island, or coffee table instantly adds a little Christmas cheer.

Pillows are another fun project. A Christmas pillow can transform an everyday chair or sofa into a holiday-ready spot, and they make wonderful gifts, too. Try a pieced design, a Christmas panel, appliqué, or even a simple quilt block turned into a pillow.

Or Start That Christmas Quilt!

Of course, there is always the Christmas quilt.

A Christmas quilt can become part of the holiday traditions for years to come. Whether it features classic stars and trees, cheerful holiday prints, snowy winter scenes, or something completely unexpected, it is a great way to bring a little handmade warmth to the season.

And starting early means there is plenty of time to enjoy the process without the pressure of trying to finish everything at the last minute.

These three beautiful quilts are kits! You can find all three here!

Make This the Year to Start Early

The best part about starting Christmas sewing now is that there is no need to rush. Choose a fabric collection that makes you smile, pick a project that looks fun, and start stitching!

Before long, that Christmas quilt will be ready for the tree, the table runner will be on the dining room table, and those festive pillows will be making the whole house feel merry and bright.

So go ahead and start the Christmas sewing. It’s never too early!
