Simple projects are the perfect way to keep little hands busy and engaged. Think small, quick projects – like felt bookmarks, fabric coasters, or drawstring bags. These projects let kids explore color, texture, and even learn basic stitching, all while making something they can use or gift.
Choose bright, fun fabrics and let them help pick out their favorites. Projects with straight lines or simple shapes work best when teaching the basics. Even something as easy as sewing buttons onto a scrap of fabric can feel like a major triumph to a child.
As their confidence grows, you can introduce new skills – like threading a needle, tying knots, or using a machine (with supervision, of course). But for the youngest sewists, hand sewing with a blunt needle and pre-punched holes is a great place to start.
